Copyright Symbol Copy and Paste Examples
A useful copyright symbol copy and paste page should show how plain Unicode text behaves in real layouts. These selectable previews use one fictional owner and the same notice, so you can compare placement without mistaking a decorative graphic for editable text.

Three quick steps
How to Use Copyright Symbol Copy and Paste
The copyright symbol copy and paste workflow is the fastest option when your keyboard does not show © or when an application-specific shortcut is unavailable.
Copy © with one click
Select the large button at the top. A confirmation tells you when the exact text character is on your clipboard. If browser clipboard permission is unavailable, the page tries a compatible fallback.
Paste it into your destination
Move to a website footer, document, photo credit, slide, design, source file, or message. Use Ctrl+V on Windows, Command+V on Mac, or press and hold and choose Paste on mobile.
Check the font and final appearance
The character stays U+00A9, but size, weight, spacing, and baseline can differ by font. Review the final exported document or published page instead of relying only on the editor preview.
Type or code the same character
Copyright Sign Codes and Keyboard Shortcuts
Copying is universal, but a remembered shortcut can be quicker during repeated editing. Every value below points to the standard © character used by this copyright symbol copy and paste tool.
Swipe the table or use arrow keys to see every column.
| Method | Value or keys | Where it works | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Literal character | © | Documents, apps, source files, and UTF-8 web pages | |
| Windows Alt code | Alt + 0169 | Many Windows applications with a numeric keypad | |
| Mac shortcut | Option + G | Standard macOS text fields and editors | |
| Unicode code point | U+00A9 | Unicode references, development, and character lookup | |
| HTML named entity | © | HTML source | |
| HTML decimal | © | HTML and XML-compatible character references | |
| HTML hexadecimal | © | HTML hexadecimal character references | |
| CSS escaped content | \00A9 | CSS generated content such as a pseudo-element |
Windows Alt + 0169
Turn on Num Lock, hold Alt, type 0169 on the numeric keypad, then release Alt. The number row above the letters normally does not provide the same legacy Alt-code input. On a compact laptop, copying © or opening Character Map is often more reliable.
Mac Option + G
Press Option and G together in a standard text field. You can also open Character Viewer with Control + Command + Space, search for “copyright,” and insert the sign when a particular app uses Option + G for another command.
Word and Google Docs
Word commonly converts (c) to © through AutoCorrect, and its Insert Symbol menu offers the character directly. In Google Docs, use Insert, Special characters, then search for “copyright,” or paste the copied sign.
iPhone and Android
Copy © here, switch apps, press and hold in a text field, and choose Paste. For repeated use, save the character as a personal text-replacement shortcut or pin it in a keyboard clipboard manager if your device supports one.

Copyright Symbol Questions
How do I copy the copyright symbol?
Select Copy Copyright Symbol © near the top of this page. When the confirmation appears, paste © with Ctrl+V, Command+V, or your device's normal paste command.
What is the copyright symbol Alt code?
On Windows, turn on Num Lock, hold Alt, type 0169 on the numeric keypad, and release Alt. If the keyboard has no numeric keypad, copy © or use the system character picker.
How do I type © on a Mac?
Press Option + G in a standard Mac text field. If an application intercepts that shortcut, use the Character Viewer or copy the standard © character from this page.
What is the HTML code for ©?
Use the literal © character in a UTF-8 document, the named entity ©, the decimal reference ©, or the hexadecimal reference ©. Each represents U+00A9.
Is © the same as ©️?
Not exactly. © is the single text character U+00A9. ©️ adds an emoji-style variation selector, so its color and appearance may vary more between platforms.
What belongs in a copyright notice?
A common format combines ©, a year or year range, and the copyright owner's name. Add wording such as All rights reserved only when it fits your situation; these examples are formatting information, not legal advice.
