Desktop and laptop
Turn on Num Lock, hold the Alt key, type 0153 on the numeric keypad, and release Alt. The digits above the letter keys normally do not behave like the keypad for legacy Alt-code entry.

Place the cursor where you want the mark, hold Option, and press the 2 key. This produces ™ directly in most Mac text fields.
You can also open Character Viewer with Control + Command + Space, search for “trademark,” and insert the character. Character Viewer is useful when a particular app intercepts the normal shortcut.
ChromeOS devices and keyboard layouts vary, so one shortcut is not dependable across every configuration. Copy ™ from the tool above, then paste it with Ctrl+V.
Some ChromeOS versions provide an emoji or special-character picker from the context menu. Search for the trademark character and confirm the preview before inserting it.

Applications and code

Paste the Unicode character directly, or use the application's special-character browser when one is available. Font choice controls how the mark looks, but the underlying code point remains U+2122.
Use the literal UTF-8 character ™, the named entity ™, or the decimal character reference ™. Confirm that the document declares UTF-8 when using the literal character.
Most modern apps accept the pasted Unicode character. If an old system removes or changes it, test a plain-text message and check the received result before updating a permanent template.
Legacy Alt-code entry generally expects digits from a numeric keypad. Turn on Num Lock and use the keypad, or choose Character Map, Insert Symbol, or the copy button when the hardware has no keypad.
The app or operating system may reserve that key combination. Try the platform character viewer or paste ™ directly rather than changing global shortcuts for a single character.
The selected font may not include a trademark glyph. Switch to a modern font with broad Unicode coverage and check the final export or recipient view.
